Located in Hangzhou’s historical and cultural district on the west bank of the Grand Canal near the Gongchen Bridge, the complex was developed between 2009 and 2011 by converting an abandoned factory. It is composed of the China Knives, Scissors and Swords Museum, the China Fan Museum, the China Umbrella Museum, the Hangzhou Arts and Crafts Museum, and the Handicraft Exhibition Pavilion with live demonstrations. These establishments present the history, rich and colorful varieties, and superb craftsmanship of Hangzhou arts and crafts from a variety of perspectives, capturing the essence of Hangzhou as China’s “capital of crafts and folk art.”

Relying on the profound culture and splendid civilization of arts and crafts of Hangzhou, the museum extracts the essence of the “City of Arts and Crafts” from development history, various types and perfect works of arts and crafts of this city. Integrating the functions of exhibition, collection, study, training and exchange, it opens a window for the world to get a better understanding of the arts and crafts of Hangzhou, and builds a platform for exchange and inheritance as well.
