Xin’an River
Updated:2016-06-21 14:27:41 Tue

The Xin’an River is one of the two upper courses of the Qiantang River system, flowing approximately 90 kilometers before entering the Fuchun River. The most unusual sight along the Xin’an is the wondrous mist that lingers over Baisha Town due to the river’s temperature, which stays at a steady 14 to 17 degrees Celsius. In the mornings and evenings, the surface of the river is cold, which creates a large temperature difference between the water and the air. This causes the formation of the white mist that distinguishes the landscape.

The Xin’an River Hydroelectric Power Station was built in 1959. It was the first hydroelectric power plant that China designed and equipped on its own.

Xin’an River, with a full-length of 373 kilometers, originates from Liugujian, the junction of Xiuning County and Qimen County in Anhui Province, flowing through the mountain areas of southern Anhui and western Zhejiang. Xin’an River, across southern Anhui, is known to the world by its wonderful combination of unique Chinese Anhui culture, natural scenery and ancient villages, and enjoys good reputation of “landscape gallery”; Xin’an River in Zhejiang province, with graceful mountainous, tree shadows, spectacular waterfalls, rivers in twists and turns on both sides, is known as “Splendid Xin’an River”. Jiande City is a county-level city with largest water area of Xin’an River, so it is called the “Splendid mountain; home of landscape”. The cross-strait aureate night conveys the three miracles of Xin’an River as “clear water, cool wind, and amazing fog”.
