Dragon boat racing is a traditional folk activity in Xixi passed on from generation to generation. It started in Tang Dynasty, developed in Southern Song Dynasty and thrived in Ming and Qing Dynasty. The name “Dragon Boat Racing Gathering” is said to be presented by Emperor Qianlong when he visited South China. It has brought great pleasure to Xixi people and added color to local custom. Along the riverbanks of Deep Pool Port live dozens of families. Flagstones are laid as quays every two or three meters. Besides, there’re also stone bridges and numerous grape trellis. All these contribute a lot to the special tenderness of waterside villages in South China.
