Visiting Lingfeng Peak for Plum Blossoms
The Visiting Lingfeng Peak for Plum Blossoms is in the west of the West Lake, and on the Qingzhi Cove at the foot of Lingfeng Mountain. Later, during Kaiyun period of the Later Jin Dynasty, the Lingfeng Temple was built here. There are also scenic spots such as Cuiwei Pavilion, Mianyun Hall, Miaogao Platform, and Xibo Pool. At the beginning of Wanli period of Ming Dynasty, the temple has declined and the monks have left, and only the temple buildings have been left. During Jiaqing period of Qing Dynasty, Zhejiang Commandant LIAN Xi has rebuilt Lingfeng Temple, with one hundred plum flowers around it. During the first year of emperor Xuantong’s reign, ZHOU Mengpo has planted three hundred plum flowers again, and the place has become a good place to enjoy plum flowers, so it is also called “visiting plum flowers at Lingfeng”. Lingfeng Peak is regarded as the “Three Best Places to Appreciate Plum Blossoms” together with Xixi and Gushan Mountain. According to historical records, a temple was built at the very beginning, and later plum trees were planted. Plum blossoms first appeared at Qingzhi Cove of Lingfeng Peak in Song Dynasty and Ming Dynasty, but related records are rare. The earliest plum planting which could be confirmed was around the twenty-third year to twenty-fifth year of Daoguang Period. However, all the plum trees were destroyed because of war. ZHOU Qingyun planted 300 plum trees at Lingfeng Peak during the first year of Xuantong Period. This scenic spot was reconstructed and opened in 1988.
