West Lake
The Third Batch of Ten Views of the West Lake
The selection of the third batch of Ten Views of the West Lake, held in 2007, inherited and carried forward the four-Chinese-character landscape naming culture. 338,600 people took part in the selection among 149 natural and cultural sites. After the voting of citizens and serious consideration of Expert Selecting Committee, the third batch of Ten Views of the West Lake were finally decided as follows: Zen Aroma of Lingyin Temple, Hearing the Roaring of Qiantang River at Six Harmonies Pagoda, Strolling along Scenic Yanggong Causeway, Conjugal Felicity at Wansong Academy, YUE Fei’s Tomb in Dwelling Sunglow, Meijia Cove in Early Spring, Sunny and Rainy Lakeside, Chasing Dreams at Beishan Street, Suffusing Clouds and Gurgling Waters of Santai Mountain, and Honoring Devotion Stele of King Qian’s Temple

The main purpose of evaluating the “Ten Views of the West Lake” for three times is to reclaim the lake to people, inherit the context, declare the world heritage, promote the brand, and give publicity to the West Lake. These sites not only are the typical representative of the lake view and cultural history of West Lake, but also reflect the science concept of Hangzhou to protect the West Lake as well as the wisdom to inherit the historical context, expressing people's evaluation to the comprehensive protection project of West Lake.
