Surrounded by mountains and rives, the whole village with birds' twitter and fragrance of flowers has extremely beautiful landscape. The forest coverage rate reaches over 90%, making it an ideal place for habitation. All the green mountains, clear waters, stone bridges, mud walls and stone roads compose the unique style of Wen Village. In 2013, Wen Village successfully applied as the quality village in the program of “Beautiful Villages of Hangzhou”. This ancient village, highlighting in over 40 well-protected ancient dwellings which were built in Ming and Qing Dynasties, thus gained the academic research interest of Professor WANG Shu, dean of College of Architecture and Arts, China Academy of Arts, and winner of Pritzker Architecture Prize. Because of his strong recommendation, Housing and Construction Department of Zhejiang Province launched “Construction of Beautiful and Livable Villages”, a provincial level comprehensive pilot project, at Wen Village in 2014. Planning and designing with Professor WANG’s architectural theory, Wen Village aims to explore its own way to develop into a livable village, so as to effectively protect the historical and cultural tradition.
