Hangzhou Branch of China Chess Academy

The Hangzhou Branch is the only local branch of the China Chess Academy. Formally established in 2008, it is located in the Hangzhou CBD. The institution is charged with selecting and training local young players of Weiqi (also known as Go), Xiangqi (Chinese chess), and Western chess. The organization has successfully hosted several domestic and international chess competitions, including the NEC Cup and the China-Japan Tianyuan (Tengen) Go Tournament.

Hangzhou Branch of China Qi-Yuan was officially established with approved from General Administration of Sport of China in 2004 and is also the only branch of China Qiyuan.The branch building was completed in 2007 with a building area of over 60,000m². Inside, Chinese Weiqi Museum, Chinese Weiqi Library and also the only chess culture theme five-star hotel in China are set.

In past ten years of development, the branch has gained remarkable achievements around two main purposes of “Build cradle of chess game champion” and “Improve cultural life quality of Hangzhou citizens”. The branch has built 8 first-grade chess teams, which makes Hangzhou the only city that has such a honor in China; 12 Go students of chess school trained by the branch achieved rank verification successfully in 2015, occupying half of the 25 players who successfully achieved rank verification in China.
