China National Silk Museum
Located at the foot of Hangzhou’s Jade Emperor Hill (Yuhuangshan) and south of West Lake, China’s first National Silk Museum was established in 1992 as the world’s largest specialized silk museum. The museum houses silk-related historical relics dating from the Neolithic era onward, particularly Han (202-220 BC) and Tang (618-907) dynasty fabrics unearthed along the Silk Road. It also exhibits modern classic qipao – also known as cheongsam or Mandarin gown – and precious fabrics. The museum is a center of academic research and public education about silk.

The establishment of Textile Identification and Protection Center of China by China National Silk Museum in 2000 marked the formal launch of identification and protection work of textile. In order to better meet the cultural demand in present stage, China National Silk Museum will be renovated and expanded into the largest textile and costume museum themed in silk in China. Besides, theme exhibition halls of “Silk Road & Silk of Silk Road” will be established as an important window to popularize the construction of Silk Road Economic Belt and Maritime Silk Road.
