Hangzhou Public Library

The new library building was completed in 2008 and is located at Qianjiang New District – Hangzhou CBD. It is the city’s largest and best-equipped public library, and China’s first public library to offer full free services. It has the largest open area among libraries of its type in China.

The library has won extensive public praise for allowing homeless and transient people to access the building to read.

Inside a city with beautiful scenery and cultural heritage, surrounded by the famous West Lake, Leifeng Pagoda, and Lingyin Temple, the modernized new Hangzhou Public Library seems very small. However, it is this “small” library that has created a fascinating reading atmosphere with its unique decoration style, has innovated the library reading experience with its first-class facilities, and has promoted the life-quality of Hangzhou citizens with its intimate multiple service. Under the efforts of Hangzhou Public Library, the public library service system of Hangzhou district has been established basically. Its overall service level has rapidly increased. The library function for safeguarding the basic cultural rights of citizens has been recognized by more and more people, and “Reading” has quietly become a living way and behavior style of modern people, revealing its important role of inheriting civilization increasingly.
