This comprehensive physical education school is located on Shuguang Road in Hangzhou. Originally built in 1956, the school received its present name after a donation by an overseas Chinese benefactor, Chen Jinglun, in 1993. In cooperation with the city of Hangzhou, the school was rebuilt that year. To date, the Chenjinglun Sports School has trained seven Olympic champions, 73 world champions, and 72 Asian champions. These achievements include breaking 16 world records and 19 Asian records. The school is therefore known as the “cradle of world champions.”
Its achievements are particularly notable in the gymnastics vault, badminton, and swimming. The school is the alma mater of Sun Yang, gold medalist in the men’s 400-meter freestyle and 1,500-meter freestyle at the 2012 Olympics in London.
With an aim to build “a first-class sports school and the cradle of champions”, CHEN Jinglun Sports School has set up 18 sports programs including track and field, swimming, gymnastics, rhythmic gymnastics, trampoline, basketball, volleyball, beach volleyball, tennis, badminton, table tennis, weight lifting, wrestling, judo, martial art, free combat, taekwondo, and boxing. There are also standard training venues assuring 24-hour training of opening programs in the school.
CHEN Jinglun Sports School has cultivated many champions, including vault champion of 1984 Los Angeles Olympic and 1988 Seoul Olympic LOU Yun, swimming champion of 2014 Athens Olympics LUO Xuejuan and champion of World Swimming Championship SUN Yang, as well as thousands of excellent athletes, including CHEN Zhaodi, YE Zhaoying, YANG Yu, CHEN Hua, WU Peng and CHEN Bo.
