Dadou Road runs along the east side of the Grand Canal from the Daguan Bridge to the Jiangzhang Bridge. The architecture along the road has been well preserved, with Xiangji Temple’s ancient stone pagoda, the State Reeled Silk Warehouse, and many local-style dwelling homes from the late Qing Dynasty and the early years of the Republic at the turn of the 20th century. The area is distinguished by the many examples of Buddhist cultural exchange along the street, which hosts lively arts and culture fairs, and boasts inns, vegetarian restaurants, and teahouses steeped in the local culture of the Grand Canal. Dadou Road has been honored with the title “First Street of the Grand Canal.” Dadou Road is also known as “Big Pipe Road”. It is about 1 km in length, located in the section from Canal Bridge to Jiangzhang Bridge, covering the west-east side of the canal in parallel to North Hushu Road. In 1996, it was merged with Hecheng Road and Cangji Road as Yuanzheng Road; until 1981, the three roads regained their names. This long narrow area enjoys cultural prosperity in history, with rich temple cultures and regional culture heritages. As one of the few old blocks in Hangzhou that still preserve original visage and enjoy years of history, this block, by treating Dadou Road as the main line, from north to south, comprises some old lanes such as Shahe Lane, Renhecang Lane (S.), Xiangjishi Lane.
