Impression West Lake
The natural landscape of West Lake sets the stage for this spectacular show that uses the city’s hills and waters as its backdrop. The performance venue is Yue Lake, a section of West Lake. Based on classical Hangzhou folklore and mythology, Impression West Lake integrates representative elements of the cultural history of West Lake using the natural landscape, lighting, music, and performance. Created by the renowned Chinese film director Zhang Yimou and the Japanese composer Kitaro, the show premiered in 2007. It is continually updated and remains a highly sought-after experience. 
Impression West Lake is divided into five acts: Encounter, Falling in Love, Farewell, Memory and Impression. Inspired by the eternal love stories of XU Xian & the White Snake and LIANG Shanbo & ZHU Yingtai, this performance goes deep into local ancient folklores and fairy tales, and highlights the representative elements of the humanity history of the West Lake. Taking sky as the curtain, lake as the stage, and landscape as the stetting, Impression West Lake perfectly integrates lights and music to attract large quantities of tourists. The theme song Impressions of the West Lake: the Rain was sung by Jane Zhang.
