Baochu Pagoda
Situated on Baoshi Hill just north of West Lake, Baochu Pagoda also goes by the names Baoshu or Baoshi Pagoda. It was built by Qian Hongchu (r. 948-978), the last king of Wuyue. Originally nine stories high, it was reduced to seven stories when it was rebuilt during the reign of Emperor Zhenzong of Song (998-1022). It has been renovated many times by later genera-tions. More than 40 meters high, the body of the pagoda is in the shape of an octagon with a structure made of tightly laid brick. The pagoda stands as a landmark of West Lake scenery.

Baochu Pagoda is one of the symbolic Buddhism architectures in the West Lake Scenic Area. This slender pagoda includes three parts: the base, the body and the spire. The former two are in the shape of octangle plane. This 7-storey pagoda has a height of 45.3m.
