Nanshan Road
Nanshan Road follows the south bank of West Lake. Along the road are cultural relics and historic sites such as Thunder Peak Pagoda, Jingci Temple, King Qian’s Memorial, and the ruins of a Tang Dynasty sluice gate. There are also former residences of notable personalities, including Chenglu Villa, Henglu Cottage, Yingbai Mansion, and Goushan Mansion. The China Academy of Art is located here. Both sides of the road are lined with Chinese parasol trees, which are a pure delight for the eyes in autumn. Nanshan Road is representative of Hangzhou streets, which boast historic landscapes and artistic milieus. Embracing half of the West Lake, Nanshan Road starts from the crossing of Hubin Road in the north, and reaches the crossing of Xishan Road in the south. There’re lots of scenic spots along the way, including Viewing Fish at Flower Pond, Spring Dawn at Su Causeway, Leifeng Pagoda in the Sunset, Orioles Singing in the Willows, Jing Temple, and King Qian’s Temple. Finished in 2002, the streetscape improvement project has realized the protection and restoration of over 20 historical architectures and relics, including PAN Tianshou Memorial, Wooden Cottage on Goushan Hill, Huang Tower, Heng Cottage, Former Residence of MAO Yisheng, Tea House Presented by Emperor Qianlong, Cemetery of BU Family and the Wall of Gelatin Factory of Hu Qing Yu Tang Pharmacy. In this way, the abundant historical humanistic resources on Nanshan Road have been passed down.
