Grand Canal
Fuyi Granary
Located inside Xiawan Lane, Gongshu District, Fuyi Granary covers an area of 8,000m2, including 3,000m2 of gross architectural area. It consists of three courtyards and three rows of barns. As one of the existing famous ancient granaries along the Grand Canal, Fuyi Granary started building in the sixth year of Guangxu Period in Qing Dynasty (1880) and was completed in the tenth year (1884). TAN Zhonglin, who was the General Governor of Zhejiang at that time, took charge of the granary. It is called “World Granaries” together with Nanxin Granary of Beijing, and is now a cultural relic site under provincial protection.

Fuyi Granary is the last existing old warehouse, with a history of more than 100 years. Its name bears the meaning of “Getting rich from love, getting peace from harmony”.

As the saying goes, there is Nanxin Granary in the north and Fuyi Granary in the South, Fuyi Granary enjoys an important historical position in the canal transportation culture. It is the witness of canal culture, water transportation culture and warehousing culture. Now, after a protective renovation, it has become a creative fashion space.
