Grand Canal
Fengshan Water Gate Site
Located at the crossing of Zhongshan Road (South) and Zhonghe Road, the relic of Fengshan Water Gate crosses Middle River from the east to the west. As the only water gate existing in Hangzhou now among the five ancient water gates, Fengshan Water Gate plays a part of historic landmark. Only two water gates are listed as the heritage spots of the Beijing-Hangzhou Grand Canal. One is Pan Gate of Suzhou, and the other is Fengshan Water Gate of Hangzhou.

Fengshan Water Gate was built in 1359, the only existing ancient city gate on the water in Hangzhou, with a history of 650 years. As the only existing one among the five ancient water gates in Hangzhou, Fengshan Water Gate has become a historic landmark, and is the coordinate for study on the change of Hangzhou City. While the line type, scale, revetment, etc. of Beijing-Hangzhou Grand Canal (Hangzhou section) changes along with city changes and shipping development, only a 20-meter-long river course under Fengshan Water Gate was preserved as the original state in Yuan and Ming Dynasties, which is quite valuable.
