Dujinsheng Silk Brocade Museum
Du Jinsheng (1897-1943) was a famous Chinese silk industrialist. He firstly established the Dujinsheng Silk Weaving Mill in 1922 at his home in Hangzhou’s Maojiabu Village. Since then, his name has come to represent the art and craft of silk brocade. Dujinsheng’s silk products won a gold medal at the 1926 World’s Fair in Philadelphia, USA. The Dujinsheng Silk Brocade Museum, China’s first brocade museum, is located at 519 Fengqi Road in Hangzhou.

Brocade is a luxurious, colorful, patterned silk fabric featuring a distinctive Han Chinese craft technique. Hangzhou brocade is one of China’s four major brocade categories.

Dujinsheng Silk and Brocade Museum, the first silk-brocade-themed museum in China, was located inside Du Jinsheng Silk Production Factory and opened on 15th May, 1997. Near 1,000 collections and pictures in the museum explain the 2,000 years of history of traditional Chinese silk knitting as well as the establishment and development of Du Jinsheng silk knitting in detail. Besides, the museum also introduces the life story of DU Jingsheng and the business story of Du Jinsheng Silk Production Factory in decades. The museum grew out of the Exhibition Pavilion of the History of Du Jinsheng Silk Production Factory. There are four exhibition zones inside: show room, raw materials preparation workshop, silk production workshop and products show & sale room. Among the exhibition zones is Famous Mulberry Garden where five famous Chinese mulberries are planted. Visitors can learn knowledge about sericulture there.
