China Academy of Art

A comprehensive fine arts institution renowned for its creativity, the China Academy of Art was founded in 1928 as the National Academy of Art. It was China’s first national institution of higher art education. In 1993, its name was changed from the Zhejiang Academy of Fine Arts to the China Academy of Art. At present it has three campuses, two of which are in Hangzhou. Its motto is “Improve oneself, cultivate the mind, think broadly, travel far.”

China Academy of Art, founded in 1928, has always stood on the frontier of art over the last 100 years, full of the sense of historical mission and responsibility to revitalize national art and the rational spirit to have a positive dialogue with world art, and has formed an important effect on innovation and expansion of Chinese contemporary visual culture art. The present China Academy of Art has realized the great-leap-forward development after campus renovation, concept inheritance, college & department restructuring and discipline expansion.

The Nanshan Campus completed in 2003 has achieved the modern deduction of water-ink art academy and the Xiangshan Campus put into use in 2007 has bred the shaping of “Face each other to cast realm of harmony between mankind and nature”. The ingenious campus has become the new business card of Hangzhou, the famous historic and cultural city.

China Academy of Art adheres to the school motto of “Act strongly and healthily, Conduct respectfully, Integration, Walk far”, cultivates the excellent talents who are wealth in ethics and technology and have basic theory attainment, practical ability and innovation spirit and undertakes the responsibility to guide the development direction of Chinese modern art.
